Victorian Shawls

Victorian shawls grew in popularity with Napoleon’s sister, Josephine being an avid collector. Throughout the Victorian era and beyond, shawls had become immensely popular. Victorian shawls were used to keep ladies warm or generally made a nice accessory for their gowns and dresses. Shawls were widely popular in ancient Persia and have been used by many cultures around the world. Shawls are generally rectangular, but are usually folded in a triangular shape. Other shawls also come in a cut triangular pattern and sometimes oblong. They were often made of thin materials such as muslin or silk. They would come in all kinds of intricate patterns and sometimes trimmed at the end with tassels. Shawls could also be thick or translucent.
