1950s House Wife

Posted on 8:51 AM by fbdfbfb
The 1950s house wife was the decade’s ideal of where a woman’s place was in society. Most baby boomers will tell you that their mothers were the home makers while the father was at work providing for the family. That was the 1950s ideal family life in a nutshell. Women were driven back in the home after working in the factories during World War Two. When the war ended women were once again relegated to the household where they took care of the children and made their husbands meals after a hard day’s work. Typical attire of the 1950s house wife was a simple, decorated blouse, short sleeve top with heels all while toiling endlessly in the kitchen. She was vacuuming, baking, cooking or attending to the needs of the children.

The 1950s house wife was in the kitchen hours before the family awoke to cook a nutritious breakfast and then making sure her husband had plenty to eat before going to work and ensuring the kids were fed before going to school. When the kids came home, the 1950s housewife made sure their homework was completed and they picked up after the kids as they played around the house. The 1950s housewife did all this while needing to look perfect. Pearls around the neck, their hair held in place with hair wrap and were the signature traits of the 1950s house wife. Such hard work and chores day after day while retaining energy and youthfulness to support her family was definitely an image that was very hard to live up to.
