Skirts also became longer, hanging below the knees. The effects of the depression kept 1930s clothing drab and a bit tamer; colorful clothing was for prosperous decades while downtrodden times were symbolized with more bland colors in fashion. The 1920s was a prosperous decade for many industrialized countries and it was a celebration of the end of World War One. Such celebration was reflected in fashions of the 1920s, but the 1930s was more about conservation and a slight return to normalcy in the way men and women dressed. There was evening wear which mostly consisted of lavish gowns. The shoulders were bare and most of the back was exposed which would have considered scandalous in previous decades. For daywear it was a simple blouse, skirt or a one piece dress for leisurely activities wear. The 1930s was a combination of modern fashion with a slight ushering in of modesty and conservative dress.

1930s Clothing For Women
Posted on 6:53 PM by fbdfbfb
1930s clothing for women celebrated the female form. Slimmer gowns wrapped tightly around the female bodice. Cloche hats were still popular during the early 1930s, but began to fade out through the decade. The 1920s saw the phasing out of any female body support devices such as corsets and bustles. 1930s clothing for women was also a more conservative decade with gowns becoming longer. Coats also reached below the knees, often matching the length of the skirt. A nice blouse with a long skirt was typical of 1930s leisure wear. Dresses were also more professional appearance, a byproduct of the 1920s when more women demanded more comfortable attire for work and leisure activities. Puffy shoulders, however, did make a comeback in 1930s clothing for women. There was the double breasted coat jacket along with the fur lined coat which also complemented the bodice.
